What are the costs of artificial grass?
What are the costs of artificial grass? A question we and the dealers of artificial grass are often asked. Let’s try to answer it once and for all. So get ready to find out the costs of artificial grass.
Why are there considerable differences in prices of artificial grass?
That’s the first question we would like to answer. You’ve probably already done your research online and found many websites, many suppliers and many differences in prices.
There is only one explanation for those price differences: the quality. To determine the quality you should ask the following questions:
• Is the artificial grass clean?
Many cheap types of artificial grass are made with colour pigments containing concentrations of heavy metals. Strict requirements are in place for items like plastic toys, but not for artificial grass. Strange indeed, and also unfortunate as children often play on artificial grass.
• Does the artificial grass have a double backing?
Most cheaper types of artificial grass have a single backing. The backing is the back of the grass; the bottom. Such a single backing doesn’t give much stability to the artificial grass so it may move or start to crease. Furthermore, the fibres are obviously less securely fixed in a single backing causing them to become loose; especially with more intensive use.
• How wear-free is the artificial grass?
Here’s an idea: ask your supplier if you can use a drill brush on the artificial grass. You will see the grass fibres of the cheaper types flaking off. The grass of higher quality will hardly be damaged and the grass will retain its original colour and appeal.
The main difference between one type of artificial grass and the other has to do with the quality of the fibres. It’s hard to tell that difference just by looking at it, but you’ll soon notice it when you start using the grass. Superior artificial grass is made with high quality fibres and can be heavily burdened. Inferior qualities (i.e. the cheaper ones) can’t stand heavy loads.
Now the question remains: how much does artificial grass cost?
Royal Grass offers many types of artificial grass. Types with short fibres as well as types with longer fibres. Types that are extremely wear-free and types that are perfect for decorative use but less suited for intensive use. Every type has its own price. But roughly speaking, these prices – and we’re always talking about clean and wear-free qualities with double backing – vary between 25 and 40 euros per square meter.
Yes, there’s a but.
The price of artificial grass can also be affected by factors other than the quality:
- The disposal of the old grass.
- Replacing black sand with yellow sand.
- Preparing the soil.
- Evening the subsurface.
- Professional installation of the artificial grass.
