Keble College at University of Oxford chose Royal Grass® Silk 35 for their spacious lawn roof terrace.
A pleasant green environment has proven to have a positive effect on the results of students. So it is with good reason that artificial grass from Royal Grass® can now be found at one of the most prestigious universities in the world. The installation of artificial turf was part a £50 million maintenance project for the 150-year-old Keble College at University of Oxford. The work started in 2016.
Looks natural but with advantages of artificial grass
The classic look of natural grass obviously goes well with a building of such rich history, like the traditional Kebble College. However, architect Rick Mather who designed the new building preferred artificial grass because it hardly requires any maintenance. Royal Grass® Silk 35 proved to offer the best of both worlds – this quality artificial turf has a lifelike appearance which most people cannot tell apart from natural grass. At the same time it has all the practical characteristics of artificial grass with little maintenance and can be used on a daily basis, even in winter.
Shock absorption and lawn drainage
The installation of artificial grass on a roof is always challenging. For that reason, two of our Royal Grass® Premium Dealers worked together on this project – Lusher Lawns and Lawn Logic. They installed an Advanced Artificial Base System (aABs) for the underlay. These shock absorbing pads offer an optimum damping so people inside the building are not disturbed by people walking on the roof. In addition, the shock pads have the best vertical and horizontal drainage to prevent puddles on the lawn with fast drainage of excess water.
A stunning artificial lawn at University of Oxford
Royal Grass® Silk 35 has a delightfully fresh and natural appearance, yet at the same time is extremely strong and durable. The result is a stunning green roof terrace with a lush lawn of 360 square meters where both students and teachers can relax all year round.
