Royal Grass® is now installed on the roof of Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum.
Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum
The largest tennis museum in the world. Its collection takes visitors on a journey through the history of the famous grass tournament. You can admire memorabilia such as rackets and clothes from various star players from the present and past.
All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), the organiser of the annual tennis tournament, turned to architectural practice DLA Design for the expansion and renovation of the museum building. The firm was commissioned to deliver a design that would be practical and fit the heritage of Wimbledon.
Royal Grass® for Wimbledon
The designers chose to use artificial grass on the roof of the building.
AELTC wanted to use Royal Grass® as its artificial turf supplier as they were impressed by the unrivalled lifelike characteristics of the product. Because the synthetic grass fibres look extremely realistic, the organisation believed it would match the nature of Wimbledon very well. They sent details to the architect for the installation of a 700 square metre artificial lawn on the museum roof. Like most customers, they found us on Google.
Installation of artificial grass
The work was completed by our Royal Grass® Dealer, Lawn Logic.
Advanced Artificial Base System (aABs) was installed for the underlay. These shock absorbing pads offer an optimum damping so people inside the building are not disturbed by people walking on the roof. Another challenge when installing artificial grass on a roof is drainage and this is also solved by the shock pads; notorious rainwater that often disrupts Wimbledon is gradually drained.
The product installed was Royal Grass® Silk 35. This artificial grass not only looks incredibly soft and fresh but is also highly durable. Thousands of visitors to Wimbledon every year can now enjoy viewing this artificial lawn on the museum roof.
